Horizon Hospice is the third oldest hospice in San Diego County and the first in the community to offer care in a nursing facility setting as well as in private homes.
Many hospices are owned by large corporations or nonprofit organizations which operate under many restrictions. Horizon Hospice is a California Corporation that is closely held by its founders whose sense of local heritage and community loyalty is reflected in Horizon's ongoing commitment to serve all of San Diego County.
Horizon's founders include four generations of a family born and raised in San Diego whose interest in hospice philosophy was sparked after personally caring for several family members through the terminal stages of illness. This personal experience as a family in crisis, as well as a desire to give back to their community, led to the creation of North County Hospice in 1984. In 1986 North County Hospice reincorporated as Horizon Hospice. Today, Horizon remains the only Medicare certified hospice covering EVERY COMMUNITY in San Diego County.
All of the policies and practices of Horizon Hospice are influenced by our history of being family owned and operated. We believe it is an honor to provide compassionate care to people in the last stages of their lives and a privilege to help the patient's family take care of their loved ones.
